Steve was born at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia, and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota. He joined the U.S. Army and served three years on active duty. He was a Sergeant E-5, and after being discharged lived in Texas for ten years. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. He moved to Santa Fe in 1987, and today lives outside town on a 5-acre hobby farm with his wife Cindy, 4 horses, chickens, and a white pound puppy named Skye. He is a Permaculture Designer, has studied and taught martial arts for about 50 years, is a painter, and most recently was an environmental director/manager for two Indian Pueblos for a total of twenty-two years. His earlier work experience was quite diverse, including managing an acupuncture college, a software development company, and in property management. Recently retired, he has committed to a new career as a singer-songwriter, focusing on performing acoustic covers and original music. The Soldier Songs and Voices non-profit organization has been an ideal group to assist on this journey, and he is grateful for the help of the professional singer/songwriters who volunteer with the organization, and other veterans who participate in the fellowship.
